Here’s a beautiful film about the conflict between two geisha houses, and about the decline of the geisha way of life.
In the 1920s a young Japanese girl from a poor fishing village works her way, by charm and by extreme good fortune, into one of the premiere geisha houses in Japan.
By the time World War II arrives — having survived a long series of girly cat fights and geisha politics — she is the most famous geisha in all the land.
The scenery, the costumes, the art direction, and some of the acting are all superb, and yet…
Al found that the story was something about which he just did not care. Caryl liked it so much she that said she would probably go see it again, and soon.
Maybe it’s just another one of Those Chick Flicks. (2 hrs 25.)
