One More Reason to “Step Outside and Take a Ride” in Movie-Going Michigan
© A.J. Malouin 2010
Liz (of our movie club “Al’s Movies @ Gayle’s Chocolates”) sent us an e-mail this afternoon reporting on a new theater in Metro Detroit that shows foreign films: the Burton Theatre.
The address is < http://www.burtontheatre.com> and the physical building is located on Cass Avenue, in mid-town.
The “About Us” section at that address states, in part…
“The Burton Theatre is an exciting, new, independent cinema in the Chinatown/Cass Corridor neighborhood of Detroit that features classic art house, independent, LGBT, foreign and cult films. Responding to the shortage of art house venues in the city, the Burton Theatre aims to help Detroit rival Chicago and New York as a center for independent film.”
I also stumbled acrosst this new theatre over the weekend whilst researching movies made in Michigan, but Liz has the good grace to pass her filmic knowledge on to the entire group.
(I believe this theater is hosting a film festival later this Winter, but I *could* be mistaken.)
At any rate, thanks to Liz for sharing one more reason Not to ONLY see films at Home.
Check out, for openers, a film playing at the Burton Theatre this weekend and next…
IF we get a couple of good reports about it, the Burton Theatre *may* join the Maple Art Theatre, the Main Art Theatre, and (especially!!!) the Detroit Film Theatre as first-rate venues in which to enjoy films within Michigan as they were meant to be scene — full-screen and in the company of similar-minded strangers!!!
Doughnut forget, also, that the Winter/Spring series of the Detroit Film Theatre opens this weekend, with the American premiere of the Director’s Cut of John Woo’s “Red Cliff.” I’ll be there on Friday night for this five-hour adventure film. (Yes, there IS an intermission.) You’re not going to see a film like this anywhere else in America. Give a shout if you want ride with from Gayle’s Chocolates.
Thanks again for your heads-up on this exciting new movie venue, Liz!!!
Lots & lots going on!!! We’ll see you in the movies!!!
