(2009/USA/Italy. Directed by Rob Marshall.)

I would give “Nine” a 15. It was disappointing overall, as I was expecting better from the same director who did “Chicago” — Rob Marshall — which I loved.

However, “Nine” was an entertaining set of musical sequences and some of the performances were worthwhile seeing. If you like any of the cast members, it’s worthwhile seeing and you’ll enjoy it. But don’t go expecting much more than that….near the end, I was falling asleep.

Daniel Day-Lewis was hot, hot, hot….I loved just looking at him and he, as usual, created a character that he was able to play convincingly throughout. He played Guido, a man that never surpassed the emotional maturity of a 9-year-old. He spends his adult life expecting the same unconditional love from all women that he received from his mother. (Isn’t this what all men do?)

Anyhow….Fergie also did a super job. She is a great singer with a very strong voice, but I’m not sure about her acting as she really only sang one number…but it was dynamite.

Kate Hudson was simply adorable. Who knew she could sing and dance? I want to be her when I grow up.

Penelope Cruz was fantastic. She is extremely sexy and did a really sexysong and dance. Interestingly, though, if you have ever seen her as a guest on a late night show, she acts and dresses unexpectedly non-sexy. (What’s up with that? Must be an act). She played Carla, the mistress of Guido, and did her usual job…she kind of plays the same parts all the time, I think.

Nicole Kidman should just not sing ever again. I like her a lot and see all her movies, but she was just simply disappointing and weak.

Sophia Loren….oh, dear God, please don’t make me look at her again. I’m not sure if it was because I remember her as a young woman, but seriously people, she looks like hell. Her skin is gross, her legs are fat, her breasts are loose, and her face is plain yucky. I don’t want to look at her that way again. (Esto Presto, do your very besto….how does that go? Remember how beautiful she was with Cary Grant?) She played the mother of Guido and was weak at best.

Judi Dench was wonderful and did a bang-up job on her song and dance. Doesn’t she always? Way better to look at than Sophia!

Marion Cotillard did a superbly job playing the wife of Guido. She is lovely and also did a sultry song and dance that was awesome.

Again, if you like a bunch of musically sequences stuck together with a weak story, get yourself there. The theatre was full of women….don’t drag your beau along; he’ll hate it Big-Time.

BTW…do you know why 6 was afraid of 7?

Because 7 8 9!

(Rated PG-13 in the USA for sexual content and smoking. In English. With Daniel Day-Lewis as Guido Contini, Marion Cotillard as Luisa Contini, Penélope Cruz as Carla Nicole Kidman as Claudia, Judi Dench as Lilli, Kate Hudson as Stephanie, Sophia Loren as Mamma, Stacy Ferguson as Saraghina (as Fergie,) Ricky Tognazzi as Dante, Giuseppe Cederna as Fausto, Elio Germano as Pierpaolo, and many others who helped make this musical movie a success!)
