Four Short Hours Until Chocolates and “Seraphine”

(Ratings: 6, then 8, 48 hours apart, by Al.) (See our side-bar page “How Caryl & Al and The Film Snob Rate Movies”)
Looks as if it’s going to rain, but we doughnut care, as less than four hours from now we’ll be sitting among friends in a room filled with chocolates. It’s the third Wednesday of the month, and that means “Al’s Movies @ Gayle’s Chocolates.”
The film under discussion this month is “Seraphine.” Gayle and Al saw this film last Sunday, at the Detroit Film Theatre, Al for the second time. Gayle said “Anyone who sits through this twice should get Extra Points.” That gives you *some* idea of the stimulating conversations our group is going to have tonight.
“Seraphine” swept the 2009 Cesars, France’s equivalent of America’s Academy Awards. Among others, it won Best Film, Best Actress, and (drive the dagger of tedium through our hearts!) Best Writing and Best Music Written for a Film.
It should be an interesting evening.
Meanwhile? “Salmer fra kjokkenet” [“Kitchen Stories,” in American] is sitting on our writing desk, waiting to be watched for the third time. We saw it at the Detroit Film Theatre, and then again at the 55th Donastia (San Sebastian) Film Festival, first with American, and then with Spanish subtitles. “Kitchen Stories” is a delicious thing that you should rent now and watch allllll weekend.
Check back tomorrow for more movie “talk, send us your comments to <50filmms@malouin.us> and we’ll see you in the movies!!!
