We Finish Out the Year in Fine Style!!!
What a fine finish to an exciting year!
Caryl & Al saw “Doubt” separately and together were very impressed by it, Caryl rating it “3” and Al rating it “2.” Check back here over the weekend for our review of the wonderful performances turned in by Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams.
The Film Snob viewed the documentary film “The World Stopped Watching” and rated it a “3.” This film tells the story of American meddling in Nicaragua. The filmmakers originally went to Nicaragua when the situation there was at the top of all news shows. Years later, the same filmmakers went back to that country to examine the results of America’s interference in Nicaragua’s internal affairs in propping up the Contras during a civil war.
The Film Snob also saw the touching story of human losses inside a family, and the drug-recovery journey of the best friend of a widow’s [played by Haley Berry] best friend, played beautifully by Bernicio Del Toro. (Rating: 4.)
Al spent New Year’s Eve at a dear friend’s house, watching the highly entertaining and visually sumptuous “Moulin Rouge.”
Caryl, meanwhile, had an in-theatre viewing of “Marley & Me,” which she found to be Wonderful, and rated a 2.
We’ll give extended coverage to several of these films over the coming three/four days.
Meanwhile, check back late Friday for lists of the “12 Best” and “12 Worst” films Al saw in 2008, as well as a list of “2008: The 12 Best Documentary Films Al Saw.”
Happy New Year, everyone, and we’ll see you in the movies!!!
