(2008/. Directed by Danny Boyle.)

It’s very seldom that a film causes such feelings of repulsion in The Film Snob that he considers walking out of it…

…then sucks him soooo deeply that he starts sobbing in the theatre…

…then causes him to sob again in the lobby after he has seen the final credits.

Such is the filmmaking power of Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire.”

Easily the most stunning film of the year, “Slumdog…” takes viewers through despair, revulsion, tension, faith, hope, joy, and ecstasy — all within the most graphically brilliant piece of story-telling they are apt ever to see.

“Slumdog…” has salutes to Boyle’s earlier “Trainspotting” and “Millions,” *both* of which are on the list of “50 Films A.J. Would Watch Again”(1.). It also has a film-ending salute to the greatest movie-making machine on Earth today: Bollywood! It’s one of the most visually effective [and gorgeous!] pieces of filmmaking anyone is likely ever to see. (more…)
